Welcome to the Burial Records website for St Thomas’ Church, Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. To find out how to search this database go to our how to search page.
Below each burial record there is a Comments section where you can record any errors or omissions. We also invite you to add any other interesting facts that you may have about the deceased. Please note that we will moderate all comments to avoid spam.
We have compiled these records from two principal sources. Derbyshire Record Office has archived most of the original hand written burial registers onto microfilm or scanned images. We have taken much of the information on this website from these archive records. We are grateful to the Record Office for allowing us access to the records. (Where a record contains data obtained from the Record Office we acknowledge this. We also show the document reference number.)
As well, we obtain data from other written and photographic burial and funeral records still held by St Thomas’ church. These do contain a small number of records for St Peter’s church in Holymoorside. (St Peter’s is the daughter church of St Thomas’). Where there are discrepancies between different sources of information we have noted these.
Unfortunately we do not have a map of the graveyard showing the original sections, rows and graves. Consequently we do not know where most of the graves are actually located. Large parts of the churchyard at St Thomas’ church are not in a good state of repair. We regret that the majority of headstones and memorials are no longer visible.
We are still working on the site , and add more records on a regular basis. Currently the site contains all available records from 1894 to the present day. It is difficult to read what is written on some of the records, so having access to more than one source is a great help. Nevertheless we apologise for any errors that we may have made and encourage you to let us know where anything is wrong. In addition the information on this website is for general interest only. That is to say we will not be liable for any incomplete or incorrect information shown.
We created this website as part of our Heritage Awareness Programme. For more information see our Heritage page.
