Walter Silcock was the son of Edward and Mary Ann Silcock (nee Barker). His father was a bricklayer, builder, and inn keeper (He kept the Bold Rodney Inn at the time of the 1911 census). Walter joined the Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment in the first world war but was discharged on 3rd October 1917, being no longer physically fit for war service under paragraph 391 (xii) Kings Regulations, due to a gunshot wound to left hand side of back, attributable to active service. He died on 12th July 1918. The death of Walter Silcock aged 20 was registered in the third quarter of 1918 at Fylde, Lancashire. Fylde is the district that covers Blackpool. His name is on the Brampton War Memorial. His parents are also buried in this Churchyard.
